"Five" Easter Egg Guide — Solo (Black Ops 1 Zombies on PS5)

Overview

"Five" drops JFK, McNamara, Nixon and Castro into a zombie-infested Pentagon. It ships with the base game in the native PS5 port of Black Ops 1.

Can you do the "Five" easter eggs solo? ✅ Yes — everything on "Five" can be done solo. Like Kino, there is no main quest — the map's secrets are the musical easter egg, the Pentagon Thief hunt, and the DEFCON system.

DEFCON System & Pack-a-Punch (How to Unlock)

Not strictly an easter egg, but the map's signature mechanic and required for one of the phone locations.

  1. Turn on the power on the lowest level (the labs).
  2. In the War Room (middle level), find the four DEFCON switches on the balcony level.
  3. Flip all four switches to bring the map to DEFCON 5.
  4. All teleporters now lead to the panic room, where the Pack-a-Punch machine is located.

The teleporters only lead to the panic room while DEFCON 5 is active — it resets after use, so you'll repeat this every time you want to upgrade.

Pentagon Thief — "Hands Off the Merchandise" Trophy (Solo Method)

From round 4 onward (and periodically after), the lights flicker, the music changes, and the Pentagon Thief spawns — a scientist who sprints at players and steals your weapon on contact.

  • Kill him before he steals any weapon and he drops a Bonfire Sale power-up — this opens the Pack-a-Punch teleporters and cuts the upgrade price to 1000 points. This also unlocks the "Hands Off the Merchandise" trophy.
  • If he grabs your gun, kill him before he escapes to get the weapon back plus a Max Ammo. If he escapes with it, the weapon is gone.

Solo strategy: The thief teleports in with a shimmer near your position. Hold a corner with clear sightlines, keep your best gun holstered (he steals the weapon you're holding), and dump fast-firing weapons into him — he slows briefly each time he teleports. The Winter's Howl freeze slows him dramatically and makes the no-steal kill much easier solo.

Musical Easter Egg — "Won't Back Down" (All 3 Phone Locations)

Find and interact with the three red rotary telephones:

  1. Starting room (top floor) — near the Quick Revive machine.
  2. War Room level — on a desk in the room with the power switch.
  3. Panic room — on a table next to a barrier (requires DEFCON 5 teleporter access).

Each phone rings and flashes once activated. After the third, Won't Back Down by Eminem plays over the Pentagon speakers.

FAQ

Does "Five" have a main easter egg quest? No — "Five" has no main quest in Black Ops 1. Its easter eggs (musical, Pentagon Thief, DEFCON) are all solo-friendly.

How do I get the Bonfire Sale? Kill the Pentagon Thief before he steals a weapon from any player. Bonfire Sale opens the PaP teleporters and drops the upgrade cost to 1000 points.

Where is Pack-a-Punch on "Five"? In the panic room — reach it by setting all four War Room switches to DEFCON 5, then using any teleporter.

Tips

  • Solo, buy Quick Revive at spawn — in BO1 solo it self-revives you up to 3 times.
  • Don't carry your Pack-a-Punched gun in hand during thief rounds — swap to a cheap wall gun as bait, or kill him before he reaches you for the Bonfire Sale.
  • The panic room phone is the one people miss — do the DEFCON teleport at the end of a round with a crawler up so you can interact in peace.
