Moon Solo Easter Egg Guide — Cryogenic Slumber Party (Black Ops 1 Zombies on PS5)

Overview

Moon is the grand finale of Black Ops 1 Zombies — Richtofen's Grand Scheme, the M.P.D. pyramid, and the ending that changed the storyline forever. It's back in the native PS5 port with the Rezurrection DLC.

Can you do the Moon easter egg solo? ✅ Yes — up to "Cryogenic Slumber Party". The quest is split in two:

  • Cryogenic Slumber Party — Richtofen's Grand Scheme. Fully doable solo, and this guide covers it start to finish.
  • Big Bang Theory — the true finale. In Black Ops 1 this requires 4 players, plus items earned by completing the Call of the Dead (co-op) and Shangri-La easter eggs in earlier games on the same profile (the Golden Rod and Focusing Stone).

Solo essentials: grab the Hacker device in one of the lab rooms, keep your P.E.S. suit on when needed, and manage Area 51 trips carefully — the spawn area is a no-power frenzy.

Solo Walkthrough — "Cryogenic Slumber Party"

Step 0: Setup

  1. Spawn at Area 51, grab what you need fast (Jugg/PaP later — the teleporter is the priority), and hop to the Moon.
  2. Turn on the power in the labs, and pick up the Hacker (spawns on a table in one of the lab rooms). Note: you can't hold the Hacker and the P.E.S. at the same station — plan around airlocks.

Step 1: The Computer Panel (Solo Trick)

In the Receiving Bay, there's a small computer panel with a button. In co-op, two players press two points simultaneously — solo, press the button and then immediately hack the panel with the Hacker before the timer ends. Done right, the M.P.D. — the black pyramid — activates.

Step 2: Wake the M.P.D. & First Soul Tube

Head to the pyramid room. Kill zombies near the M.P.D. so their souls are drawn into the glass tube on its side. When the tube fills, the pyramid stirs and Samantha's voice is heard — and a plate/egg is released from the M.P.D.

Step 3: Take the Egg to Area 51

  1. Pick up the egg and teleport to Area 51.
  2. Place the egg in the marked receptacle near Juggernog/Pack-a-Punch, and shoot it with Pack-a-Punched weapons while surviving the endless spawn pressure.
  3. When it's done (it glows/reacts), grab it and teleport back — this is the hardest survival moment of the solo run, so bring your best guns and consider a QED or Gersch... (you have Wave Gun and Zap Guns on this map — the Wave Gun is your best friend here).

Step 4: Return the Egg & the Computer Passwords

  1. Place the egg back at the M.P.D.
  2. Go to the computer terminal in the labs and use the Hacker to enter the password sequence Richtofen asks for (multiple entries at the terminal — follow his dialogue prompts between actions).

Step 5: Fill the Four Soul Boxes

Four glass soul tubes now need filling — kill zombies close to each corner tube of the M.P.D. room (roughly 25 kills per tube). Solo, run tight circles around the pyramid room and feed each tube in turn. When all four are full, the M.P.D. opens... revealing Samantha inside.

Step 6: The Body Swap

Follow Richtofen's instructions for the final interaction at the M.P.D. — Richtofen touches the pyramid, the body swap happens, and from now on Samantha's announcer voice is Richtofen's.

Reward: everyone gets a 90-second Death Machine, and the "Cryogenic Slumber Party" trophy unlocks. Solo, your run of Richtofen's Grand Scheme ends here — a complete, satisfying finale.

The True Finale — "Big Bang Theory" (4 Players Only)

In Black Ops 1, continuing past the body swap requires:

  • 4 players, one of whom completed Ensemble Cast (Call of the Dead co-op) to carry the Golden Rod, and one who completed Time Travel Will Tell (Shangri-La) for the Focusing Stone.
  • The items are placed at the M.P.D., freeing Maxis' influence and beginning the endgame.
  • Players then complete three "Samantha Says" simon-style games on the computer panels — each success moves a rocket into launch position.
  • Finally, a QED/Gersch interaction near the Vril vessel sends everything into motion — and the three rockets launch and hit the Earth, permanently cracking it in the skybox.

Reward: the "Big Bang Theory" trophy, all perks, and one of the most infamous endings in Call of Duty history — the destruction of Earth, which leads directly into Black Ops 2's TranZit.

Musical Easter Egg — "Coming Home" (✅ Solo)

Interact with the three hidden teddy bears — note that one of them is at Area 51, so you'll need to activate it during the chaos before teleporting. All three trigger Coming Home by Kevin Sherwood and Malukah.

FAQ

Can you do the Moon easter egg solo in Black Ops 1? Yes — everything through Cryogenic Slumber Party (the body swap) is solo-doable using the button + Hacker trick. Only Big Bang Theory demands 4 players.

Do I need the Call of the Dead and Shangri-La easter eggs done first? Only for Big Bang Theory. Cryogenic Slumber Party has no prerequisites.

What's the best solo loadout? Wave Gun + a PaP'd assault rifle, Juggernog, Quick Revive (3 solo self-revives), and the Hacker always in rotation.

Tips

  • Never leave the Hacker behind — half the quest runs through it.
  • Do the Area 51 egg step at the start of a round and don't linger: grab, shoot, leave.
  • Excavators breach the base periodically — hack the terminal to stop them, or keep your P.E.S. handy.
  • Solo Quick Revive is limited to 3 uses — after the third, play like it's hardcore mode.
