Shangri-La Easter Egg Guide — Time Travel Will Tell (Black Ops 1 Zombies on PS5)
Complete 'Time Travel Will Tell' easter egg walkthrough for Shangri-La in Black Ops 1 Zombies on PS5: every eclipse step in order, the Focusing Stone and all-perks reward. Requires 4 players on console — plus the solo 'Pareidolia' musical easter egg.

Overview
Shangri-La hides its entire main quest behind Eclipse Mode — a time-shifted version of the jungle temple where two lost explorers, Brock and Gary, call for help. The quest is "Time Travel Will Tell", and its reward is the Focusing Stone, which grants all perks permanently.
Can you do the Shangri-La easter egg solo? ❌ No. Activating Eclipse Mode requires four buttons pressed simultaneously at spawn — one player per button. The PS5 version is a straight port, so the original 4-player requirement stands. The musical easter egg, however, is solo-friendly.
All quest steps below happen in Eclipse Mode unless noted. Press the four spawn buttons again whenever you need to re-enter the eclipse.
Step 1: Activate Eclipse Mode
- Turn on the power.
- At spawn, near where Quick Revive sits, four buttons protrude from the structure.
- All four players press them at the same time. The sky darkens, the eclipse begins, and Brock and Gary can be heard near the temple entrance under the Pack-a-Punch shrine.
Step 2: Match the Stone Tiles
Stone tiles with symbols appear in the mine cart / bridge area. Step on and match the correct tiles as indicated by their glow — work through them until the explorers confirm the path is aligned.
Step 3: The Water Slide
One player activates the water slide while two players stand at the bottom of it. Done correctly during the eclipse, this reveals the next clue and moves the explorers forward.
Step 4: Shrink the Crystal Ball (31-79 JGb215)
Get the 31-79 JGb215 (the shrink ray) from the Mystery Box. Find the crystal ball and shrink it with the baby gun so it can move along its track.
Step 5: Ignite the Gas with a Napalm Zombie
In the underground tunnels, gas leaks hiss from the walls. Lure a Napalm Zombie (the burning one) through the tunnel so his flames ignite the gas leaks. Keep him alive long enough to walk the full route.
Step 6: Plug the Water Tunnel
In the flowing water tunnel, holes need plugging: place a Spikemore (spiked claymore) over the leak as directed. When placed correctly during the eclipse, the water pressure changes and the step completes.
Step 7: The 12 Symbols & the Tent
Melee the 12 symbols in the correct sequence around the temple walls, then destroy the indicated tent. Brock and Gary's dialogue confirms each correct hit.
Step 8: The Mud Room Wheel Puzzle
In the mud room, a set of wheels/dials with symbols must be rotated into the correct combination. Rotate each wheel until the symbols align — listen for the confirmation chime.
Step 9: Pack-a-Punch the Shrink Ray
Leave the eclipse, Pack-a-Punch the 31-79 JGb215 (it becomes The Fractalizer). You need the upgraded version for the finale.
Step 10: Gongs, Crystals & Dynamite
Back in Eclipse Mode, find and ring the four correct gongs to charge the crystals, and retrieve the dynamite for the explorers.
Finale: Free Brock and Gary — the Focusing Stone
- Shrink the Focusing Stone structure with the upgraded shrink ray as instructed.
- Give Brock and Gary the dynamite. They blast through — and the timeline does what it does (listen to the audio for one of the darkest jokes in Zombies).
- The Focusing Stone appears on an altar near the Pack-a-Punch shrine.
Reward: the player who picks up the Focusing Stone gets all 8 perks permanently — they cannot be lost for the rest of the game. Everyone gets the "Time Travel Will Tell" trophy. The stone is also one of the two key items required later for Moon's Big Bang Theory easter egg.
Musical Easter Egg — "Pareidolia" (✅ Solo)
Find and hold interact on the three Element 115 meteor fragments hidden around the map (one near spawn, the others along the jungle paths). All three trigger Pareidolia by Elena Siegman.
FAQ
Why can't Shangri-La's easter egg be done solo? The eclipse activation needs four buttons pressed at once, one per player. Without four players the quest can't even start on console.
Who should pick up the Focusing Stone? Whoever plans to carry the late game — it grants that one player every perk permanently. In a Moon-prep playthrough, give it to the player who'll also do Moon's quest.
Does the eclipse end during steps? Yes, eclipse phases are re-triggered from the spawn buttons — you'll toggle it multiple times across the quest.
Tips
- Assign each player a fixed button at spawn — you'll press them many times.
- Keep a crawler alive during puzzle steps; Shangri-La's tight paths punish mid-round puzzle work.
- The Napalm Zombie step is the most fragile — don't shoot him, just kite him through the tunnel.
- Get the shrink ray early from the box; two steps depend on it.
